Empowering Children to Stay Safe Awareness Sessions

Purpose:

To equip, empower and inspire participants with an awareness of key personal safety messages to maximise the ‘people safety’ of their own children or children in their care.

Note: ‘People safety’ refers to any threat to a child perpetrated by known or unknown adults or other children including various forms of abuse, bullying and abduction.

 

Duration:

2 hours

 

Target audience:

Parents, carers, teachers, social workers, counsellors, support workers, child protection workers, community workers, childcare providers, youth workers and service club leaders (e.g. Guides and Scouts).

 

Participant numbers:

Up to 200 participants

 

Learning objectives:

On completion of this session, participants will gain an awareness of:

  • Dynamics of child abuse
  • Indicators of abuse
  • Dangerous personal safety messages and practices
  • Fundamental safety messages to empower children
  • Supportive strategies to maximise children’s safety

 

Learning methods:

Lecture-style presentation with visual aids. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Empowering Children to Stay Safe Workshops

Purpose:

To equip, empower and inspire participants with a sound understanding of, and strategies to relay to children and/or otherwise apply, key personal safety messages to maximise the ‘people safety’ of their own children or children in their care.

Note: ‘People safety’ refers to any threat to a child perpetrated by known or unknown adults or other children including various forms of abuse, bullying and abduction.

 

Duration:

1 day (approx. 8 hours including meal breaks)

 

Target audience:

Parents, carers, teachers, social workers, counsellors, support workers, child protection workers, community workers, childcare providers, youth workers and service club leaders (e.g. Guides and Scouts).

 

Participant numbers:

Up to 20 participants (negotiable)

 

Learning objectives:

On completion of this workshop participants will gain:

  • A sound understanding of the dynamics of child abuse
  • An awareness of the indicators of abuse
  • An awareness and understanding of dangerous personal safety messages and practices
  • A sound understanding and strategies to relay fundamental safety messages to empower children
  • A sound understanding and methods to apply supportive strategies to maximise children’s safety
  • An awareness of resources and referrals

 

Learning methods:

A combination of lecture-style teaching with visual aids and interactive methods including role plays, brainstorming, discussion and a demonstration of activities that can be used by participants with their own children/clients.
