Recognising and Reporting the Abuse of People with Disabilities Awareness Sessions

Purpose:

To equip, empower and inspire participants with knowledge and skills to enable them to recognise and report the abuse of people with disabilities promptly and properly, with a view to enhancing their safety and wellbeing.

 

Duration:

2 - 3 hours (custom-made to meet client needs)

 

Target audience:

Carers, disability practitioners, family and friends of people with disabilities.

 

Participant numbers:

Up to 200 participants

 

Learning objectives:

On completion of this awareness session, participants will gain an understanding of:

  • Dynamics of the abuse of people with disabilities
  • Recognising abuse
  • Handling disclosures
  • Reporting abuse
  • Abuse prevention strategies
  • Resources and referrals.

 

Learning methods:

Lecture-style presentation with visual aids. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.
